First I have to say that I am in no way financially involved
with MAM.
(I worked for MAM during my last years at university, but it was
very different then - the cheap rack mixer line had its origin
in these
days ...)
But Stefan (MAM "chief designer") and I are close friends since
our schooldays, and you can bet that we have many long nights
of discussion over every product they put out! (And yes, there
are some very interesting products to come in the near future
...
stay tuned (;->) )
Usually, my own preferences are in old prog rock and "Berliner
Schule" electronic music, but the market, and MAM's interest,
is surely more in "modern" electronic music. You know that I
never
cared much for 303 clones, apart from the technical side. (And
from the technical side, I can tell it's hard to get closer to a
303
than with the MB-33 ... you know it all.)
My interest in vocoders is much greater - but it's hard to beat
Stefan's knowledge about vocoders, so it were just a few minor
points
from my side that made it to the product.
The resonator is the exception: The idea of a PS-3100-like
vactrol-
based resonator came up on the mailing list (thanks Romeo !),
and
I built one for myself immediately. Then everybody who heard it
asked "can you build one for me as well?" or "what does this
cost?",
but of course it's impossible to build such things more than
once if
you have a full time job. Finally, the MAM people showed some
interest
as well, and as usual, the end product is much better than the
prototype.
(I had an MS-20-like LFO with variable waveform, plus a sine
shaper,
but it turned out that you don't hear much difference with the
rather slow
vactrol devices. The MAM model has these nice envelope followers

instead, and a 2nd LFO, and it's stereo.)
Now, this was the whole story (;->)
