Subject: [AH] Spring Reverb Demos and More -> Master-Room / Furman

Here's a couple of spring reverb tests I did. You can see the importance of
stereo reverb. Without stereo, the reverb sounds very distance like it's a
couple of hundred feet away. With stereo, it moves you right up to the stage
as it were. I used the Quantec reverb woman talking as sounce material.

Master-Room Rverb XL-305 and XL-201
1) Dry
2) Model XL-305, dark hall, medium wet, mono
3) same as above, but switched to stereo
4) Model XL-201, bright hall, very wet, mono
5) same as above, but switched to stereo

Furman RV-1
1) Dry
2) Small Room, mono, simulated by damping the springs with my fingers (it's
the only way to control decay times on a spring reverb)
3) Large Hall, mono
4) Large Hall, stereo (it's two RV-1's running in parallel)

Since I have it, might as well include Roland's first digital effects unit
the DEP-5 doing a few things.

1) Dry
2) Simulating a non-reflective type room, such as a bedroom or living room
consisting of drywall and carpet. Using the gated reverb for that.
3) Using the stereo chorus to stereofy the voice in parallel with a small
room.
4) Metal Box
5) Train Station

And a test I did today. What makes something sound like it's far away vs
close by besides volume? I've been wondering what kind of filtering to
apply to help with that problem, so I recorded myself walking towards my
lawn mower, then tried to match the amplitudes of the far and near sounds.
Turns out if something is far away, there is a rather large drop in the 500
to 2000 Hz frequency range. I put a short snippet of a far away lawn mower
(about 40 - 50 feet) and a close up one in the following file for those who
want to hear the tonal difference.
